Three Weeks Old

I can't believe she is three weeks old already. The time is flying by and we can see her growing every day. After some trouble gaining weight she finally has made it back up to her birth weight and 2 additional ounces for a grand total of 9.9lbs. Thanks to Grandpa Rick for the cute little onesies and to Sis. Mower for the soft blanket. Do you just love her clippy. Ryan picked them out and put them in her stocking.
Addison is more alert during the day now and is on a pretty regular 3 hour eating schedule day and night. We are very glad that the night time schedule has smoothed out a bit. Sleep is still hard to come by but it's getting better every day. Besides, even when you are bone dog tired these little eye melt your heart, even at 3:30am.

Blessing Day

Today was an especially special Sunday as it was the day Addison was blessed. We wondered if they would call off church due to the weather. It has been snowing non-stop since yesterday and the roads were quite slippery. Luckily for us there was no freezing rain and church continued as normal. Addison had a beautiful blessing performed by her Grandpa Layne. She was blessed with many wonderful things for her life. We are so lucky to have her in our family.

The dress and booties I wore when I was was blessed and Grandma Cec made the blanket just for the occasion.

More Pictures

Time to catch up. We had a planned c-setion on the 9th due to the baby being breech. We got up at 5:00am to be at the hosptial by 6:30am. We had been watching the news the night before and found out that the whole state was under a winter storm warning as they were expecting blizzard Allison to blow through across Wisconsin. (I know I only thought they named Hurricanes!) We woke up to find 18 inches of fresh snow all around. Ryan got busy shoveling the driveway, which took him a half an hour. The roads in our sub-division weren't plowed yet so he took his dune truck and literally ran it up and down the streets to clear a path to the highway. We called the hospital to let them know we would be late and would arrive as soon a possible. I wasn't too worried as our doctor lives in our same subdivision. I knew if we couldn't get out neither could he. Besides, they weren't going to start the c-section without me.

We arrived at the hospital about an hour late and from there it was a whirlwind of activity. Before we knew it we were in the operating room listening to Addison's first cries. Very sureal. I have to say a c-section is definatley the way to go. I almost feel like I cheated. I only felt some chest pain due to air in my abdomin and that's it. Recovery has been super quick and besides the sleep deprivation we are doing great. It also helps that my Mom is here for a month (I don't think my house has ever been this clean so many days in a row!) and Ryan is off until Jan 1st.

Addison is so cute. Of course we are a little partial. She has big chubby cheeks, a darker complexion like her Dad, and lots and lots of dark black hair. She is a good baby and only cries when she is hungry or gassy. Any tips on dealing with gas would be highly appreciated. We feel very blessed to have Addison in our family. Keep following the blog for updates on her progress and to watch her grow.

Addison's Room

Here's another project in Addison's room completed. Ryan built me a frame today and we stretched the painting on it. My friend Tiffany custom made the painting. I love it so much. It really helps to tie in all the colors and makes the room make sense. I wish the camera conveyed the colors better. You all are just going to have to come and see it in person! Thanks again Tiffany.

Addison's Room Update

Here's a side view so you can really see the texture.

So here's the latest completed project in the baby's room. This wall will eventually be the backdrop for the crib. (The missing piece will be going up as soon as the glue is dry enough for the hanger on the back to stay on.) I origionally wanted to buy coffered ceiling parts and use them on the wall. Since I couldn' t find any that weren't a few thousand dollars I decided to use these instead. They are ceiling tiles. You know the ugly suspended ceiling in schools. The ones which are usually all water stained and have holes in them. Well these tiles are meant to replace the ugly holey panels and make them look better. But I thought they would work great as a wall treatment. I'm trying really hard to make the room a mix of modern and traditional. A very hard task as I always lean to the traditional side. Anyway I wanted a fun 3-D wall treatment and I love, love, love the way this turned out! Ryan really doesn't get it but he says he's good with it since I'm so in love with it. And the best part is when we move I can take them with us.

Trunk or Treat

Here's a little catch up from this last month. Our Young Women at church were in charge of our branch Trunk-or-Treat party. When I heard this I thought, "Oh good I won't be heading this one." I've been a little burnt out since the Christmas breakfast and Valentine's dance in Florence. That is until I was called into YW's as second counselor. Oh, well if you can't beat them join them right? It was a really nice party and pretty easy to throw together. The girls had all the ideas and we just helped them accomplish it all.

This is Kim (1st counselor) and her husband Sam with their youngest Abe. We've been doing a lot with their family since this summer. They are one of only two other families in the branch who are about our age. So it's really nice to have them around. Plus Kim loves design too!

One of our girls wanted us all to dress like witches....so here we all are on the follow through. A little scary. Morgan is on the far left she and Gaby (not pictured) are the only two active YW. We have two others we are working on. We need all the girls we can get. Especially since the presidency outweighs the girls right now. Second from the left is Sara (YW president). She's tons of fun and so great to be around. I have a feeling I'm going to learn a lot from here. Only bad this is they live about 30min out of town so it makes it difficult to get together.

And finally here is a glorious close up of a pregnant witch. Have you ever seen the likes? A lot scary! See what happens when I'm let loose in a Goodwill? I was pretty much busting out of the dress but it worked for one night. Ryan went to the party too but he decided not to dress up so no pictures of him this go around.

Halloween Treats

Here's the latest craft I've whipped up. I found this great idea off of the Homemaking Fun blog, follow the link at the bottom of the picture. When Ryan asked if we were sending our nephew a Halloween treat I knew instantly what we could do. We modified the instructions a bit to reflect a Halloween theme. For instance we named the chocolate melts "black bats' blood," nuts "crushed bones & skulls." You get the idea and I'm sure our nephew will have fun with it. Perhaphs even more fun that his uncle had in helping create it.

This little birdy

Here's a picture of the drawer pulls I painted for Addison's dresser. For those of you who don't quite understand my "creative perspective" it's a birdy. They still need a few coats of laquer to shine them up.

Recipe Repost

Opps! This is the recipe I meant to post, but the gingered chicken is really good too!

Green Curry Chicken (*for those of you with kids, okay who am I kidding you all have kids except us...for the moment, justt use on tablespoon of curry paste and there won't be any heat.)

1 lb Chicken Breasts 1 Can Coconut Milk
Crushed Garlic, to taste 1½ -2 T. Green Curry Paste
Olive Oil 3T. Sugar
4 Carrots, chopped Fresh Cilantro, chopped
3 Celery Stalks, chopped on a diagonal Lime Wedges
1 Medium Onion, chopped 2C. Rice, cooked brown or white

Cut up chicken & fry in garlic & olive oil. Set aside. Stir fry carrots, celery & onion in garlic & olive oil - about 5 minutes or until onions are mostly cooked. (Don't over cook - you want the carrots slightly crispy) Mix together with chicken in a big pot & pour the coconut milk over. Stir in the green curry paste & sugar. When it comes to a boil thicken with a little cornstarch. If you want more sauce, add some chicken broth to the consistency you desire. *be warned...do not add too much broth or it will dilute the coconut flavor too much.* Serve over warm rice & top with fresh chopped cilantro & lime wedges.

The Crafting Fairy has struck...

My friend Mariann gave me her boppy while I was out in Oregon. Which was wonderful as it was on my "still to get" list. After a couple of orders of fabric and a trip to Joann's it looks like this...

Minky fabric on one side and a cotton alphabet fabric on the other. Perfectly coordinated to the baby's room. Thanks Mariann!
And now that I have had this fabric for a year my Euro pillow for our bedroom are FINALLY done!
I've also been up to some other crafting but if I showed you I would ruin some Christmas presents so pictures will have to wait.
I recently stole the links of craft blogs off my friends blog. These blogs are so inspiring! Check out my side bar and look at U Create and Grosgrain in particular...if you want the crafting fairy to visit you too.

Sailing on the Canal

We went sailing the other week with our landlords. A very nice perk! We went along the canal and out towards Green Bay. Stone cliffs. There's a lot of granite cliffs all around us.
It was a beautiful relaxing afternoon. And so nice to see the area from a water view point.

One of the many light houses along the penninsula. This one you can stay in and it's haunted! I'm going to try to set something up for Halloween.
The main industry here in town is the shipping yards. These cargo ships are just being stored for now and they are....
HUGE!Stone Harbor, one of the many resorts that are locate along the penninsula. This day they had live music we could hear from the water front.
The tug boats outside of the Maritime museum. The marina for our neighborhood. If we had a boat it would be here.

New Projects

So here are some of the projects we've completed for Addison's room so far. Thank goodness for Ryan, he's been painting the heck out of all my projects...with few complaints. First up a little side table I found at a furniture store for $21. The before... And after.

The top. I origionally wanted to upholster under the glass but couldn't find any fabric I loved. For now a scrapbook paper will have to do. I am still on the hunt for some contemporary lattice fabric and I may add a band of color around what is now the paper part. The front might also get a band of color under the tray top.

I really wanted to incorporated this story my Grandpa would always tell us kids. He would only ever tell us this one so when I found this great pair of fillagree mirrors I knew what to do. And thanks to my mom I had a Cricket waiting in the closet to cut some vinyle with.
I'll post pictures of both of them once they are all hung on the wall. Notice the lovley ship border in the background, that is coming down shortly.
And coming shortly...the after of the dresser/changing table.
